Johan Botha has re-signed with the Adelaide Strikers and will captain the team in the 2012-13 T20 Big Bash League.
Botha and his family have moved to Adelaide and the South African can’t wait to get back out in front of the ‘Sea of Blue’ at Adelaide Oval.
“I had an incredible time with the Strikers last year and when Darren Berry and Jamie Cox spoke to me about moving here I jumped at the opportunity,” Botha said.
“We had an electric atmosphere at our home games; to have over 24,000 people was amazing and I can’t wait to get out there again.
“I can now commit fully to every game in the T20 Big Bash League and I’m excited about the squad that will be assembled.”
Botha was one of the Strikers’ international signings during the first season of BBL and in his four games was a shining light.
He made 75 runs at 37.50 with a strike rate of 144.23, and with the ball he took five wickets at 19.80 with best figures of 2/18.
His overall T20 record speaks for itself. He has played 32 T20 international’s for South Africa, averaging 19.30 with the bat and has taken 32 wickets.
From 122 domestic T20 matches he has taken 110 wickets and averaged 21.71 with the bat.
Having captained South Africa in the T20 format, coach Darren Berry said the Strikers are blessed to have someone with his leadership experience.
“There are few better captain’s in the world in the T20 format than Johan Botha,” Berry said.
“He showed last year in the KFC T20 Big Bash League why we were so keen to sign him and he will again be a huge asset for us.
“He is one of the best exponents of spin bowling in the shorter format and his middle to late order batting will be crucial for us.”
