Northern Districts seamer Brent Arnel has been added to the New Zealand Test squad for the current series against Australia.
Arnel has been in good form in the Plunket Shield. He took 5 for 43 in Canterbury’s innings of 151 last week and also bagged a career-best haul of 8 for 81 playing for New Zealand A against Zimbabwe A.
New Zealand coach John Wright said, “We feel it’s important to add a bit of bowling depth.
“Brent has been bowling well in the Plunket Shield for Northern and offers us another seam option. The conditions in Hobart are likely to be slower so he comes into the frame.”
Arnel has played five tests since his debut against Australia last year, the last being January’s test against Pakistan in Wellington.
Arnel will join the team in Brisbane on Monday 5 December before travelling with the side to Hobart for the second Test which begins on Friday.
