Surrey and England pace bowler Chris Tremlett had undergone a back operation at a London hospital last night.
Tremlett, 30, was forced return home early from England’s tour of the United Arab Emirates last week after a scan revealed a bulging disc in his back.
The player’s rehabilitation programme will be closely supervised by the England medical team in conjunction with Surrey and a date for his return to cricket will be agreed in due course.
Having made his comeback in Dubai after a five-month absence, Tremlett looked out of sorts, taking 0 for 53 before being ruled out of the remainder of the series, as well as England’s tour of Sri Lanka that begins at the end of March.
He has taken 49 wickets at 26.75 in 11 Tests, including 17 in the victorious Ashes series last winter.
