The Hobart Hurricanes have announced their first two signings for the 2012-13 Big Bash League – Travis Birt and Aiden Blizzard.
Blizzard’s powerful shot making for the Adelaide Strikers saw him gain an opening position with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In his first domestic T20 match with the Bushrangers (the former Twenty20 Big Bash) he showed his phenomenal ability smashing 89 from 38 balls.
Birt was the leading run scorer in the competition with 362 runs at an average of 40.22 and a strike rate of 160.17.
He has the record of the fastest 50 ever in Australian domestic cricket after he scored 50 from 22 balls against the Melbourne Stars.
Birt, who has agreed to a three-year deal with the Hurricanes, said he couldn’t wait to re-sign with the Hobart Hurricanes.
“I really enjoyed my time back in Hobart as a Hurricane and I’m looking forward to the season starting all over again and escaping Perth’s sweltering summer heat for a while,” Birt said.
“The excitement and the buzz around the Hobart Hurricanes during the inaugural Big Bash League season was great to be a part of.”
The Hobart Hurricanes will announce further signings during the recruiting window which will continue until Friday 20 July.
Each BBL team has to sign a minimum of 14 players in the signing window, with a maximum of 18 players allowed. Final squads will be completed by 30 November.
