Pakistan-born but just recently granted a citizenship from South Africa, Imran Tahir’s hopes of playing for SA on the World Cup just boosted after he was included to a squad for the tournament next month.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) said that the ex-Pakistan A international replaces Janohatan Vindiar in its 30-man squad for the upcoming event in Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh.
The CSA also added that batsman Vandiar withdrew from the squad “gracefully” to allot Tahir, South African domestic cricket’s impressive performer this season, on taking his place.
Andrew Hudson, CSA selection convener, said that they feel that they need to widen their bowling options and he’s discussed already the matter with Vandiar. He also said that he’d like to express him gratitude to the batsman.
