The Indian cricket team for the solitary Twenty20 international and the five-match ODI series against England will be selected on Saturday.
Selection Committee will meet at the Park Sheraton, Chennai to pick the Indian cricket team.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee will meet at 11:30 am on Saturday, 6 August 2011, at the Park Sheraton, Chennai, to pick the Indian cricket team for the one-off T20 International and ODI series against England,” BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said in a statement.
Off spinner R Ashwin is expected to be picked ahead of Harbhajan Singh, who suffered Grade I Abdominal Muscle strain during the second Test leading to his being ruled out of the remaining two games.
Amit Mishra, who is expected to play in the third Test, and Pragyan Ojha, who has been sent in as Harbhajan’s replacement, will fight for the second spinners’ spot.
In the pace department, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel, Praveen Kumar are sure to make the team. S Sreesanth, Ishant Sharma and Vinay Kumar will fight for the other two slots.
Yuvraj Singh, who fractured his left index finger on the fourth day at Trent Bridge while facing up to a bouncer from Tim Bresnan, is expected to be fit for the ODI series. In case, he is not fit, one of Yusuf Pathan or Ajinkya Rahane is likely to be picked as a back-up middle-order batsman.
Parthiv is likely to get the nod ahead of Wridhdhiman Saha as a reserve wicketkeeper.
The solitary Twenty20 match would be held on August 31 at Old Trafford, Manchester followed by the ODI series commencing at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street on September 3.
The fifth and the final ODI will be held on September 16 at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.
