The Indian squad for the four-Test series against England will be picked on 2nd July. The All-India Senior Selection Committee will meet at 5.00 pm on Saturday at the Park Sheraton, Chennai.
Players who missed the tour of West Indies due to injury or other reasons are likely to be fit for the tour of England and will be available for selection.
Senior batsman Sachin Tendulkar had opted out of the entire tour to spend time with his family while regular openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, as well as pace spearhead Zaheer Khan, pulled out due to injuries.
Also missing from the West Indies tour were Yuvraj Singh, who was indisposed, but has declared himself fit for selection for the England visit, and S Sreesanth, who was also on the injured list of players with a right elbow problem.
India will play four Test matches against England with the first match scheduled to be held at the Lord’s from July 21–25. It will be the 2000th Test match in the history and ICC is planning to mark the occasion by celebrating this fantastic milestone.
Mr Lorgat said: “We are planning to mark the occasion by celebrating this fantastic milestone. Test cricket is the pinnacle format of our game and I am confident that this series will confirm this enduring format in front of full houses.”
The third Test will be held in Edgbaston, Birmingham from August 10-14 followed by the fourth and the final match of the series at the Oval from August 18-22.
India will also play a five-match ODI series and one-off Twenty20 match against England during the tour. The squad for that series will be announced later.
