Ireland Name Squads For Namibia And Tri-Series

Cricket Ireland has announced the squads for the forthcoming Intercontinental Cup, ODIs with Namibia, and tri-series in Edinburgh against Sri Lanka and Scotland.

Trent Johnston will captain the side in the absence of regular captain William Porterfield. Porterfield will back for the one-day fixtures, and will be joined by county colleagues Niall O’Brien, Gary Wilson, and Boyd Rankin. Nigel Jones who missed out on the four-day squad due to work commitments is also their for the ODIs.

Ed Joyce isn’t available due to personal reasons, while Albert van der Merwe continues to recuperate from his elbow injury.

Gloucestershire all-rounder Hamish Marshall wasn’t considered for selection. Cricket Ireland Chief Executive Warren Deutrom said: “Although Hamish has declared for Ireland, he has at the same time become technically qualified for England. Irrespective of his International playing preference, his nominal England qualification releases significant payment to Gloucestershire CCC from the ECB and playing for Ireland in the upcoming matches would jeopardise these payments, which would be unreasonable on Gloucestershire within a budgetary cycle.

“Since Cricket Ireland, for a similar budgetary reason, is unable to compensate Gloucestershire for their financial loss, Hamish’s ability to play for Ireland in the short-term will remain under review. We shall remain in consultation with Hamish, Gloucestershire CCC and ECB over the coming weeks to determine how best to resolve the matter.”

Ireland’s One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka and Scotland will be streamed live on the Cricket Ireland website – www.irishcricket.org

Ticket prices for the ICC League 50 over matches on 4 & 5 July against Namibia, also at Stormont, are as follows: Adults £10, OAP/Assoc/Life Members £8, Under 16’s free.
