The offspinner Nathan Lyon has been ruled out of the Prime Minister’s XI side to take on Sri Lanka at Manuka Oval on Friday due to injury.
Lyon suffered a leg injury during Australia’s crushing fourth Test victory over India at Adelaide Oval last week.
He took a series-best 4-63 in India’s second innings, including the prized scalp of Sachin Tendulkar.
“Nathan Lyon has been carrying a right thigh muscle strain for the majority of the Test series against India,” Australia’s physio Alex Kountouris said.
“This injury has gradually become worse throughout the course of the series and has come to a point where he needs a break to allow it to heal.
“He will undergo a rehabilitation program and we anticipate his return to cricket in the next two to three weeks.
Queensland leg spinner Cameron Boyce and Victoria’s Meyrick Buchanan will replace injured Nathan Lyon and Kurtis Patterson in the PM’s Xl squad.
