Niall O’Brien extends Northants contract

Ireland wicketkeeper-batsman Niall O’Brien has signed a two-year deal with Northamptonshire, committing him to the club until at least the end of 2013.

O’Brien has been in great form with the bat this season, scoring 629 runs at an average of 48.4 in the LV= County Championship, including a high score of 166.

Niall’s form in the CB40 has seen the Left handed batsman smash 312 runs at an average of 52. Niall impressed during the County’s match against Hampshire, scoring 121, back in May.

Niall said after signing his contract, “I am looking forward to being part of the exciting things that are happening at Northants Cricket.

Both parties are happy and hopefully I can help the club push on and gain promotion to Division One of the LV= County Championship.”

Head Coach David Capel said, “I am pleased that Niall has committed himself to Northants once again and look forward to seeing him perform over the next two seasons, helping the club achieve our ambitions.”

Northants Cricket have also signed Durham and Scotland batsman Kyle Coetzer on loan for the remainder of the season.
