Joe Mennie and Ryan Duffield will replace injured pair Mitchell Johnson and Mark Cameron in the Perth Scorchers’ squad for the upcoming KFC Twenty20 Big Bash League.
The KFC T20 Big Bash League Technical Committee has approved a request from the Perth Scorchers to make two changes to their final squad of 18.
Mennie has played three first class and three one-day matches for the Redbacks this summer, taking 7-96 in the first innings of last week’s Bupa Sheffield Shield match against the Retravision Warriors at the WACA Ground.
“Joe has been really impressive against the Warriors in a couple of Shield games. He bowls a heavy ball, has a fast, bustling-type action, and he can bat as well, so he is a really handy addition”, said Perth Scorchers Head Coach Lachlan Stevens.
“He has made every post a winner since moving from Sydney to Adelaide, and we hope he gets the opportunity to show off the talent that we have seen him express for South Australia in recent weeks.”
Duffield has taken 33 wickets in seven Shield matches and ten scalps in seven RYOBI One-Day Cup games. He claimed the Future Legend honour at the WACA Premier Cricket Awards.
“Ryan gives us the left-arm variation we were chasing and is a big threat with the new ball. He will bowl fast and swing the white ball, particularly at the WACA, and he will be a handful in the first six overs for us”, said Lachlan Stevens.
“We are excited to be signing Ryan. He unfortunately didn’t squeeze into our original 18 but an opportunity has opened up for him and we are really pleased to have him on board. Hopefully he can do the hard work required to sneak into our final XI.”
The Perth Scorchers start their KFC T20 Big Bash League campaign against the Hobart Hurricanes at The Furnace on Sunday 18 December.
