Left hand opener Salman Butt has been appointed as Pakistan’s captain to lead the side for the rest of the England series.
The decision was taken during a meeting here, which was chaired by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt.
Wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal has been appointed Salman’s deputy.
It may be noted that incumbent skipper Shahid Afridi had surprised all by announcing his retirement from Test cricket after his side’s 150 run loss against Australia in the first Test match at Lord’s.
Afridi had told the BBC Radio that he wanted to prolong his ODI and T20 cricket career.
The slam bang batsman, out slogging for two in the second innings of the first Test , said he no longer had the temperament for the five-day game after what was his first Test in four years. (ANI)
