Opener Virender Sehwag is set to join the Indian team for the last two Tests.
“Virender Sehwag will fly to England early tomorrow (August 3) morning to join the Indian cricket team.” said BCCI secretary N Srinivasan in a statement.
Sehwag missed the previous series in the West Indies and the first two Tests in England because of shoulder surgery in May.
He was selected as the 17th member of the touring squad for England, but was allowed to join his team-mates a fortnight late.
Sehwag is likely to play a two-day match against Northamptonshire from August 5 to check his fitness ahead of the third Test beginning at Birmingham on August 10.
Sehwag’s regular opening partner Gautam Gambhir, who missed the second Test with an elbow injury, is fit for the third Test.
“Gambhir has recovered from the injury. He is sure for the next Test,” Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said.
The return of Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir will boost India, who lost by 319-run in the second Test at Trent Bridge to give England a 2-0 lead in the four-match series.
India have to win at least one Test and not lose the other one as to prevent England from taking over as the number one-ranked team.
