IPL 2014 Schedule & Fixtures

The schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 has been announced.

The Mumbai Indians will be the defending champions, having won the 2013 season after defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final. There will be eight teams this season, one fewer than 2013 after the withdrawal of the Pune Warriors India.

The tournament will be jointly hosted by India and the United Arab Emirates. The opening 20 matches will be held in the UAE at three different stadiums in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah with the tournament returning to India on 2 May.

The opening match of the tournament will be played between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders on 16 April 2014 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi at 8:00 pm IST.

If the match is being played in India then it is most likely to be live streamed on the BCCI.TV website.

The streaming will be ‘LIVE’ for netizens based overseas. The live streaming of the matches in India will delayed by five-minute.

Sachin Tendulkar announces retirement from ODIs

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar today announced retirement from One-Day Internationals.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released Sachin’s statement on the day when team for Pakistan series was to be announced.

“I have decided to retire from the One Day format of the game,” said Tendulkar.

“I feel blessed to have fulfilled the dream of being part of a World Cup wining Indian team.

“The preparatory process to defend the World Cup in 2015 should begin early and in right earnest. I would like to wish the team all the very best for the future.

“I am eternally grateful to all my well wishers for their unconditional support and love over the years.”

Tendulkar played his last ODI against Pakistan in Dhaka during the Asia Cup, where he made a half-century in India’s victory.

He is finishing with 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs at an average of 44.83. He has scored 49 hundreds, 96 fifties in the format, including a double hundred.

BCCI Awards 2012

The Annual BCCI Awards Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, 21 November 2012, at the Chambers Terrace, Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, Mumbai.

India’s top performers in international and domestic cricket during the twelve-month period from 1 October 2011 to 30 September 2012 will be feted at the ceremony.

Virat Kohli will be presented the Polly Umrigar Award, for being India’s top international cricketer of 2011-12. The award comprises a trophy and cheque for 5 lakhs.

The previous winners of the award are Sachin Tendulkar (2006-07 and 2009-10), Virender Sehwag (2007-08), Gautam Gambhir (2008-09) and Rahul Dravid (2010-11).

VVS Laxman, who announced his retirement from international cricket in August 2012, will be felicitated at the ceremony. Sachin Tendulkar will also be honoured for completing a century of international centuries.

Another feature of the ceremony will be the posthumous felicitation of seven legends of Indian cricket – Vijay Merchant, Vijay Manjrekar, Dattu Phadkar, Vinoo Mankad, Ghulam Ahmed, M.L. Jaisimha and Dilip Sardesai. The next-of-kin of each of these individuals will receive a trophy and cheque for 15 lakhs.

The Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Sunil Gavaskar, former India captain. The award comprises a trophy, citation and cheque for 25 lakhs.

Former BCCI president PM Rungta dies

PM Rungta, a former BCCI president and head of the Rajasthan Cricket Association, has died at the age of 84 at his residence in Mumbai.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president N Srinivasan and secretary Sanjay Jagdale offered condolences.

“Mr. Rungta was an individual who lived and breathed cricket,” N Srinivasan, the BCCI president, said.

“He served the BCCI with distinction as its president, and was an invaluable guide in later years. He will always be missed.”

BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale said, “The BCCI owes a lot to Mr P M Rungta. He served the Board with distinction, as President, and in several other capacities. He worked hard to make Indian cricket a force to reckon with.”

P.M. Rungta was President of Board of Control for Cricket in India from 1972-73 to 1974-75.

Rungta’s brother, Kishan, is a former first-class cricketer and chairman of the national selection panel, while his son Kishore is a former treasurer of the BCCI

BCCI bans five cricketers for spot-fixing

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banned Madhya Pradesh fast bowler TP Sudhindra for life, Uttar Pradesh fast bowler Salabh Srivastava for five years and Madhya Pradesh batsman Mohnish Mishra, Goa all-rounder Amit Yadav and Himachal Pradesh batsman Abhinav Bali for one year for bringing the game into disrepute.

The board has banned Sudhindra for life which means he will not be allowed to play any cricket conducted by the BCCI, the International Cricket Council (ICC) or any of their affiliated units ever again.

The Committee held Sudhindra guilty of actually receiving a consideration to spot-fix in a domestic cricket match, and hence imposed exemplary penalty on him.

Sudhindra has been debarred for life, from playing any cricket matches conducted or authorized by the ICC or BCCI, or any affiliated unit of the BCCI.

He will not be entitled to the monthly gratis, benevolent fund, benefit match or any other facility, in lieu of.

He cannot hold any position in any cricket association affiliated to the BCCI, for life.

SHALABH SRIVASTAVA

Shalabh Srivastava was held guilty of agreeing to fix a match and negotiate terms for the same, even though no actual match-fixing or spot fixing took place.

He has been debarred for a period of five years, from playing any cricket matches conducted or authorized by the ICC or BCCI, or any affiliated unit of the BCCI.

He will not be entitled to the monthly gratis, benevolent fund, benefit matches or any other facility, during this period.

He cannot hold any position in any cricket association affiliated to the BCCI, for a period of five years.

MOHNISH MISHRA, AMIT YADAV, ABHINAV BALI

The three players, through loose talk and unsubstantiated bragging, brought the game into disrepute, and hence, have been held guilty of the lesser offence.

They have been debarred for a period of one year, from playing any cricket matches conducted or authorized by the ICC or BCCI, or any affiliated unit of the BCCI.

The penalties will be effective from the date of the suspension of the players – 15 May 2012.

TP Sudhindra gets life ban for spot-fixing

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed a life ban on TP Sudhindra for his alleged involvement in spot-fixing in domestic competition as shown by a TV channel in a sting operation.

“The Committee held Sudhindra guilty of actually receiving a consideration to spot-fix in a domestic cricket match, and hence imposed exemplary penalty on him,” the Board said.

“Sudhindra has been debarred for life, from playing any cricket matches conducted or authorized by the ICC or BCCI, or any affiliated unit of the BCCI.

“He will not be entitled to the monthly gratis, benevolent fund, benefit match or any other facility, in lieu of.

“He cannot hold any position in any cricket association affiliated to the BCCI, for life.”

The 28-year-old Sudhindra was caught in a sting operation by a TV channel during IPL 5 along with four other cricketers Shalabh Srivastava, Mohnish Mishra, Abhinav Bali and Amit Yadav.

He is the third cricketer to be banned for life by the Indian Cricket Board for match-fixing.

He has joined former India captain Mohd. Azharuddin and former ODI cricketer Ajay Sharma to get a life ban from the BCCI.

BCCI welcomes Sachin Tendulkar’s recommendation to Rajya Sabha

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) have welcomed the government’s nomination of Sachin Tendulkar as a member of the Rajya Sabha.

“We (BCCI) are happy that Tendulkar’s services as a sportsperson has been recognised,” BCCI Chief Administrative Officer Prof. Ratnakar Shetty said.

“He’s been a true ambassador for the country and he deserves it.”

Tendulkar has been nominated along with veteran actor Rekha and business leader Anu Aga.

Tendulkar, who turned 39 a few days ago, is the first active cricketer to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha.

Tendulkar is the leading run-getter in international cricket with more than 33,000 runs in all formats of the game.

He is the first batsman to break the 200-run barrier in ODI cricket. And in March this year, he also became the first batsman to score 100 international centuries.
