IPL 2014 Schedule & Fixtures

The schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 has been announced.

The Mumbai Indians will be the defending champions, having won the 2013 season after defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final. There will be eight teams this season, one fewer than 2013 after the withdrawal of the Pune Warriors India.

The tournament will be jointly hosted by India and the United Arab Emirates. The opening 20 matches will be held in the UAE at three different stadiums in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah with the tournament returning to India on 2 May.

The opening match of the tournament will be played between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders on 16 April 2014 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi at 8:00 pm IST.

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to field against Sydney Sixers in a group match of Champions League T20 at the Johannesburg here on Sunday.

Brad Haddin said “We are hoping to put up a good show. We are not too concerned with whether we bat first or not – the wicket will remain the same I feel.

“Hazlewood, Starc and Cummins are all fit and raring to go.”

MS Dhoni said “It is a very difficult ground to defend, so we want to chase. We are playing with two foreign seamers in Hilf and Doug.

Chennai Super Kings have kept an unchanged side while Kolkata Knight Riders have made a couple of changes.

Brett Lee comes in for Brendon McCullum and Bisla is also in the playing eleven as Balaji hasn’t recovered from his hamstring injury.

Kolkata Knight Riders captain, Gautam Gambhir, said “We have three quality spinners and also have Lee today, so we are up for the challenge.

“Unfortunately Balaji has to miss out due to an injury and hence we have to bring in Lee. McCullum makes way for Bisla.”

Chennai Super Kings captain, MS Dhoni, said “We are looking to bat first in a pressure game and we want to put runs on the board.

“The pitch looks a little difference with some more grass but it depends on how they have rolled it.

“It is different every time when you play the final. It is a fresh time everytime and you just need to be consistent.”
