IPL 2014 Schedule & Fixtures

The schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 has been announced.

The Mumbai Indians will be the defending champions, having won the 2013 season after defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final. There will be eight teams this season, one fewer than 2013 after the withdrawal of the Pune Warriors India.

The tournament will be jointly hosted by India and the United Arab Emirates. The opening 20 matches will be held in the UAE at three different stadiums in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah with the tournament returning to India on 2 May.

The opening match of the tournament will be played between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders on 16 April 2014 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi at 8:00 pm IST.

IPL 2013 Points Table

The positions in Points Table shall be determined by the number of points gained with points being awarded as follows:

2 points for each match won;

1 point per team taking part in any match with no result and any match which is tied (where it was not possible to complete a Super Over at the end of play or where the Super Over itself is tied);

1 point per team for any match involving such team which does not commence for any reason (other than where the reason for such non-commencement is a breach of the Operational Rules by one Franchisee which results in such Franchisee forfeiting such match); and

0 points for any match lost or forfeited.

The team with the highest number of points shall be at the top of the table and the team with the lowest shall be at the bottom.

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni said, ” We’re missing a few players. Albie Morkel and Morris are not here. Hilfenhaus is not here for the game.

“We were lookig to bowl first. There could be some dew later on. I don’t believe in surprises.”

Mumbai Indians captain Ricky Ponting said, “We’re going to bat first. Looks like a pretty good surface. Last game we were off the boil we did a lot of things right in the previous game.

The IPL 2013 ceremony is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm (IST) on Tuesday, 2 April 2013, at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata.

The IPL has signed Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt Ltd as promoters for the Opening Ceremony.

“We are delighted to have tied up with Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt Ltd, which has a proven track record of organising and executing events on a grand scale,” Rajeev Shukla, Chairman, IPL, said.

“The Opening Ceremony of the Pepsi IPL 2013 will be one of the most spectacular events ever witnessed, in keeping with what will follow in the tournament itself, over the following seven weeks.”

The Opening Nite will feature Live performances from a medley of international artists including music sensation Pitbull along with Flying drummers, Chinese percussionists, awesome fireworks and some of the biggest Indian film stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone.

The sixth season, due to begin at Kolkata’s hallowed Eden Gardens on Wednesday, 3 April 2013, will feature Nine teams. A total of 76 matches will be played over a period of seven weeks. The winner of the sixth season will be decided on Sunday, 26 May 2013 at the Eden Gardens.

Yorkshire sign David Miller for T20

South African left-hander David Miller has signed to play for Yorkshire Carnegie in this summer’s Friends Life t20 competition.

The 22-year-old has represented his country in both one-day internationals and Twenty20 cricket and had a spell with Durham last season.

Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire’s director of cricket, said: “David is available for the whole tournament which made him an attractive proposition.

“You look at his strike-rate, he averages 120-plus per hundred balls, and in the Indian Premier League he’s been scoring at 150-plus.

“He’s that explosive type of player we’ve been looking for. I’m excited by the squad we’ve assembled for this campaign.”

Coach Jason Gillespie said, “I think he’s a very good player. He’s very attacking.

“We’re very excited that he’s agreed to come to Yorkshire, he will complement our squad very well.”

Miller has also played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kings XI Punjab.
