IPL 2011 Winner – Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs in the final of the IPL 2011 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Chennai Super Kings who won the toss and elected to bat were given a great start by their openers, Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey, with a opening partnership of 159 runs. Murali Vijay scored 95 of 52 ball with help of four fours and six sixes.

Chennai Super Kings lost some quick wickets towards the end which restricted them to 206 runs which was still a very good score.

In reply, Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their opener Chris Gayle early to Ravichandran Ashwin. After losing Gayle early Royal Challengers Bangalore were unable to build any partnerships and they ended with only 147 in their 20 overs.

Saurabh Tiwary and Virat Kohli contributed 42 and 37 respectively.

Chris Gayle won the Orange Cap for maximum runs in the tournament. He scored 608 runs from 12 matches. Lasith Malinga who plays for the Mumbai Indians got the Purple Cap for most wickets. He took 28 wickets from 16 matches.

Kieron Pollard was awarded for taking most catches in the tournament. Kings XI Punjab batsman Paul Valthaty was awarded the Best Individual Performance in the IPL for his 120 against Chennai.

Mumbai Indians have won the toss and elected to bowl against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second qualifier of the IPL 2011 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, India.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have left out Mohd. Kaif to include Syed Mohammad. Mumbai Indians have included R Sathish and Abu Nechim Ahmed in place of Tirumalsetti Suman, Dhawal Kulkarni.

The winner of this game will play the  Chennai Super Kings in the finals of the IPL 2011.

BCCI Dismisses Reports On Gambhir’s Fitness

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reacted strongly to reports quoting unnamed Board sources on Gautam Gambhir’s fitness.

BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said –

It has been brought to the BCCI’s notice that media reports pertaining to Mr. Gautam Gambhir are doing the rounds, most of which feature ‘quotes’ attributed to senior office-bearers.

The BCCI would like to clarify that no such statements have been made. A media release will be issued after Mr. Gambhir’s fitness has been assessed by the Indian team’s physiotherapist.

Kolkata Knight Riders are playing with the same side that they played in the previous game. Mumbai Indians have included Aiden Blizzard, Dhawan Kulkarni and Munaf Patel back in the playing elven.

The winner of this game will play the Royal Challengers Bangalore as to decide the second team that reaches the finals of the IPL 2011. Chennai Super Kings have made it to the finals by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Deccan Chargers have made two changes to their side, they have included Sunny Sohel in place of Ishant Jaggi and Manpreet Gony in place of Pragyan Ojha.

Royal Challengers Bangalore are without Dirk Nannes who is not playing due to injury that he suffered during the game against Mumbai. He has been replaced by Johan van der Wath. Abhimanyu Mithun and Azad Pathan are also out of the playing XI and have been replaced by S Aravind and Ryan Ninan.
